There is an old karate myth that says if you wash your belt your knowledge will be washed away with it. In fact, it was said everyone wore a white belt and the belts darkened color with dirt and use.
Washing the belt was considered sacrilegious.
Whether this is true or not, today’s standards of cleanliness vastly diverge from the olden days.
The reality is most of us who train wash our belt.
It’s easy to get bacteria and dirt which can contaminate you or others and give them an infection.
The belt can also stink if unwashed.
What do you think about this old tale? Do you know anyone who follows this?
